Chassidus
Rabbi Heschel Greenberg’s classes, essays and books on Chassidus, including the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s ma’amarim (Chassidic discourses), translated with introductions and notes.
What is Chassidus?
Rabbi Greenberg sets Chassidus apart from the mystical teachings of Kabbalah in general:
…Chassidus represents the part of Torah that focuses on, mines and elicits the positive in ourselves and in others. Chassidus is the part of Torah that digs into the deepest recesses of our soul, where no negativity can exist. Chassidus relates to the part of our soul that is referred to as the Yechidah, the part that is intimately tied up with G-d’s essence.
Chassidus is also learned week by week, alongside the parsha. From his introduction to the Rebbe’s ma’amar in Ma’amarim of the Rebbe, Volume One: Basi L’Gani:
…in addition to the lessons gleaned from the actual narratives and laws of the Torah, we must also glean deeper insights from the wellsprings of Chassidus on those Biblical texts, as they correspond to that particular week.
